I have plenty of Thunderbolt 3 ports. But there is no Thunderbolt 3 to Ethernet adapter so therefor I still need 2 dongles!

To run the Carbon yes, BUT not to run the Samsung display in your system.
I am guessing we are talking about two different things .
I am guessing what you actually meant in your OP was you were trying to use Your Samsung Display as an ethernet hub ? and connect the Carbon to it and then from it to your Mac (which does not work) yes ??

And Yes I understand you need 2 dongles to connect the Carbon to the Mac ... BUT My point was that in order to run the second display in your system , you don't need to connect the Samsung to the Carbon , you can simply use a TB3 connection to go straight from the Samsung to the Mac. And then it will work as a second display

Yeah my OP was solely based on the fact that I need 2 Thunderbolt dongles to run the carbon. I have no problems connecting my 4K Display. As a matter of fact the 4K display connects 2 UAD devices over Thunderbolt 3, an Avid Artist Mix over ethernet and all my USB3 devices, plus it charges the MBP. So all in all I only use 2 Thunderbolt3 ports on my MBP to connect everything!

I actually experimented with that second Ethernet port and I was able to get it to see my Avid Artist Mix and use it for wired internet!
