very slow import of audio-files in 5.1
Importing audio recorded with 5.1 sessions seems to take very long...
The audio-files icon changed from black and white to blue and red when recording a sound with a 5.1 sessions - of course I would not care. But if I want to import a audio-file recorded with a 5.1 session into a 5.1 session it seems to take ages!!! Older audio-files do import much faster (like they did pre 5.1)! What is going on? Does PT have to recalculate the waveform again? Does it copy (well - no, it does not of course). What did I do wrong? If I import audio-files from sessions recorded pre 5.1 I have no problems. It does not matter how I import the audio: either with the import-audio-dialog or via draging the audio-files over the PT-alias on the desktop (which is a much faster way of working of course). Any help - ideas? System: G4-533MP (dual-processors not disabled), OS 9.1, PT 5.1 (PT and DAE each got 80 MB RAM), 512 MB RAM, ProMax DH-MAX Dual-Graph-Card (no difference in using the Navidia-Graph-Card), PT Mix+, 3* 888 1* 882-20 DC-30+ (I get the error even without dig. picture) Atto dual-channel SCSI all Disks (except system-disk) are formated with FWB 3.02 (no go for Atto drivers since I have to go to other studios too) QT 4.12 or: 9600 with NewerTech G3-500, 9.1, PT 5.1. PT-24 ...... Same on both systems!!!! |

Re: very slow import of audio-files in 5.1
Were the sessions you're using created in a pre 5.1 version of PT?

Re: very slow import of audio-files in 5.1
One thing I have noticed is that a lot of my Sessions open with the BroadcastWAV compatibility checked in the preferences/compatibility area. If this is checked all files for some reason (bug?) are converted even if they are standard ProTools files. this takes much longer. Try unchecking this in prefs and import. You will noticve that instead of saying Convert the import dialog now says Add if you have mono SDII or AIFF files. any comments Digi?

Re: very slow import of audio-files in 5.1
My sessions were created in PT 5.1. I have the broadcast checkbox unchecked. When I import files it says add, not convert. It only happens occasionally, but sometimes takes as long as 5 minutes to import 1 file. For a while I thought PT was freezing, it was some time till I had the patience to wait it out.
