I was looking at the User manual for the MBOX Studio. It showed the connectors for Left and Right speaker outputs as each being TRS plugs needed. I would have thought each one would be TS. Is this correct and why would you use a 1/4” TRS plug for each one? In the past you only needed TRS for a single stereo output but you might get a Y cable with one TRS that split into a left TS and right TS plug to go to two separate speakers.
Can anyone who knows please reply?

TRS is balanced. TS is unbalanced.
You’re thinking of TRS unbalanced stereo like a headphone cable. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Generally speaking, you can still use a TRS (balanced) output to connect to an unbalanced amp or powered speakers. So if, for example, you are using an amp with RCA unbalanced inputs, you can still connect them to the balanced outputs of the MBox using a TS to RCA cable. You just lose the advantages of a balanced connection - which is mainly protection from noise on a long cable run.
Using an unbalanced (TS) input will also result in a lower level - I can't remember if it's -3dB or -6dB, although this is not really important. Dominic

So then you have to have a TRS Cable with TRS on other end for each speaker?
If I remember correctly on a balanced cable plug the sleeve is outer shield, Ring common ground and tip signal So basically for connecting each one to a common TRS for typical non balance single connection the Tip would go to one side say Studio outputs “Left’s tip” the Ring to the Studio outputs “Right’s tip” and the sleeve to the common to the Left and Right common ground tied together and not worry about the sleeve that connects to each one for shielding purposes?

The cable itself is no different than a regular stereo cable in design. It sounds like you speaker system is looking for a stereo input and not a balanced TRS input. I would not suggest plugging your speaker into the TRS output. Possibility someone here knows of a safe way of doing this, like with an adapter or something. |

I am now thinking a cable would have to have TRS plugs to plug into the Studio’s output but connect the lefts output tip to the Tip of a single female TRS Jack and then the Tip of the Right’s output to the ring of the single Female TRS Jack and finally the Sleeve from one (or both tied together) to the Sleeve of the single Female output. My cables to my stereo speaker are not over 3 ft in length so hopefully noise would be low if any
