Question: Digi 001 Set Up On A Mac G-4 with 2 drives..

I have an 800 Mhz G-4 with two (2) 40G hard drives. I was told to get the extra drive if I was going to use Pro Tools(so I did) but wasn't really told why. My question is, how to set up Pro Tools between the two drives. Do I just install PT on one of the drives and use the other for back up and/or other applications. I'd appreciate any info on how to set up my Digi 001 to get the best performance out of my Mac.

yes. install the program on the operating drive and record and save your audio to the second drive.

I felt it was a good idea to partition my system HD.
OS 9.1on one partition running only my music apps. the other partition runs everything else, and OS X ( just installed it - looks just sweet- DIGI - you GOTTA make this WORK!!). My mac is not a dedicated machine, but that one drive partition is - dedicated to Music apps. Still when I am booted on the drive dedicated to running PT etc., I can usually run Internet Explorer, Outlook Express (from the other partition), and PTLE simulteneously without a glitch.
Partitioning = reformatting = losing everything you did not back up to CD. You will have to reinstall your apps. Use the Drive Setup app in the utilities folder in OS 9 to partition. Sounds like a biotch but the partitioning/reformatting is very quick.
My second HD which i added is for audio storage. All my projects in whatever music*program i'm using get saved to that drive. It is very easy to keep organized.

Master drive for all system files and applications.
Slave drive for all session folders.

This way, the Master drive does the recording onto the slave drive.

Allocate as much ram as yu can sapre to PT and DAE. With the applications closed, click on the application icon and go to file-get info-memory. Increase the prefered sizes to these(or as much as you can spare up to this)
DAE to 200M
PT to 250M
