Kabal,

I just purchased an ibook 14" G4 1.33, 768MB RAM, 60GB HD from macmall.com and its awesome, the OS X kicks butt. Bye bye windows!

You should really think of getting more memory at least 512MB for pro tools. Im getting an MBOX as well due to its portability. I would also recommend getting an external HD, in case something happens to your laptop.

BTW, the ibook from www.macmall.com came with free 512MB extra ram - $100 off after rebate. Its an awesome deal with the total around $1350.00

From what I've read Mac's are the way to go for PRO TOOLS.

Good luck,
Don

Try getting a G4...
As a PC user you'll already get lower plug-in count as macs are slower (or you go with fastest G5 )

The Mac Mini is great for starter.
If you got with Laptops try getting a G4, even 800Mhz...
I've seen here once a used powerbook 12" 867mhz with no cd (malfunctioned) and no battery for 350$ ...

If you must go with iBook G3 get the fastest...
I had a 600Mhz before my G4 1.2Ghz iBook...
Those machines choke from OS X / PT..

If you want such machine MacOS 9 is the best performer for G3s...

Hi

the real FUN starts with 1Ghz and at least 768MB Ram on OS X.

so you might considering a MiniMac, although is had only a 32MB Videocard which is quite low these days.

just my HO.

Before you plunk your money down, you might want to look through the "Does Mbox really suck this bad?" thread on this forum. It's not (as the title implies) a slam of the Mbox, but a lengthy discussion about some probs that some folks are having with Mbox and some Mac portable models.

more recent macs (after about March 2003, I think) are OSX only. Earlier models can dual Boot.

Kabal,

Let me know if you are still interested in an ibook G4 14". Im selling mine (2 weeks old w/ receipts etc). My fiance just surprised me with a new 15" powerbook today! (b-day) lol. I can't return it since its against macmall.com policy. OH well. I will probably post it on ebay and sell it for a low price. Like I said on my previous email it has 768MB of RAM, 60GB HD, airport extreme installed.

Regards,
Don
