I appreciate any and all help. I understand the frustration when you know more than others and they just don’t get it. I’ve been on both sides, so I don’t mind getting slapped around. It’s all good. I will post my results once it is all done. I am waiting on the switched adapter to arrive and then I’m all in.

Also what model older non switching pcie card for nvme m.2 blades are you using? If you don't mind.

I have two different ones. Got them both from CreatePro in the UK. Unfortunately I am away from the studio all week this week.

No problem. I found a bunch on amazon. Also some youtube videos of guys doing this. It's great we can still do all this modding of our 5 1 towers.

IIRC HDN is 1 lane x PCIe 1 electrical in a PCIe 4 physical card. You could not find a more wimpy card spec if you tried...

So I am assuming you are saying "Yes" the Crest and Samsung EVO 's, needs to be in a single 16 lane slot (i.e. the second slot from the bottom on my machine currently the PTHDN card)
And thus move the PTHDN cart up to slot number 4 a single 4 lane slot
Thanks, that is what I will do

Is this correct, that the m.2 host card needs to be in the slot that it the closest to the Video card? I missed that info. The HDX card should work in any slot since you can have more than one, I guess? I currently have it in the slot closest to the video card since I heard that was the best way to install a single HDX card.

Yes if you want to be using more than one card and get the PCIe 3.0 speed (which isn't possible on 2.0 4x slot)

What if you only have one HDX card? Can it run optimally in a 4?
Or do both the switched ssd drive adapter AND the HDX card need to go in the ONE available 16 slot above the graphics card? (I know, not possible).
My plan was to move my one HDX card up a space into a 4 slot and put the switched ssd above the graphics card in the second 16. Is that all out the window?

I think hdx is only a 2 or 4 lane card? Doesn't need the 16 lane slot.

I am concerned whether it can get the 3.0 speed with one HDX card in a 4 lane slot. I need someone to please tell me if one HDX card will run optimally in a 4 lane slot or not. If not, I have to re-think this all and my brain is already hurting. Plus, I now have all the parts sitting here looking at me, going now what?

Put it all in and see how it works. Won't break.
Also I have 2 rigs. One has the magma pcie card in slot 3. The other has a single hdx card in slot 3.
