How To Add 2nd iLock ??

Hey all, trying to add a second iLock to my PT account. It's an old one that was used before, but not for several years. iLock License Manager sees it, but there doesn't seem to be any way to activate it as a second key. Right now, I have one working iLock (USB). I just want to have a backup USB iLock just in case.

Any help would be appreciated. As always, this whole iLock thing is a pain in the ass. I've been a PT user since the early 90's and it hasn't gotten any easier for us.

If only all this was documented somewhere.

But what do you mean by "add it to your account?" if it's an old iLok you used before (on the same account) it will already be on your account.

For anything like modern Pro Tools you need at least an iLok 2 or 3.

What I mean is, I want to be able to use BOTH iLocks, depending on whether I'm at work or home. Have either one unlock PT. I have an active subscription for PT Studio, the iLock I'm currently using unlocks it and works fine. I just want to have an additional iLock to use in case something happens to this one, or I lose it. Thanks. D.

You only get one activation for Pro Tools. So it can only ever live on one iLok. There is Cloud licensing but it's a pain and I would not want to rely on it for professional use. But that's what you'd need to do if you don't want to carry the same iLok between work and home.

FYI I use the Zero Downtime / Theft & Loss Protection (ZDT/TLC in the iLok Manager). It costs a little money every year but it's cheap insurance if something does happen to the dongle.

That is not ever how Pro Tools works or has ever worked with iLok licensing. If you want to operate like that you have to purchase two separate licenses. You could use iLok cloud, but personally I'd not, just carry the iLok with licenses on with you. In my case attached it to a short bright ribbon with ID tag and Tile tracker (because I'm forever forgetting stuff).

Otherwise the common reason for having two iLoks is to use with ZDT insurance where if you lose/damage the first iLok, iLok support can transfer a temporary license to your spare.
