Which Mastering Limiter to use?
I'm looking for a look-ahead mastering limiter plugin and was wondering if anyone has used the few that are out there and have a preference. (Maxim, Waves, etc. . . )

Re: Which Mastering Limiter to use?
i am using waves since a longer time , even the new 3.0 vers adds more headroom , too .
i have tried the maxim twice , 1st i thought its not usable , 2nd try ( maybe my 1sr version didnt work right ??? ) was an good result , too . hard to say which one is better . they are both real good tools . |

Re: Which Mastering Limiter to use?
I am very satisfied with the WAVES L2 hardware box. I use it setup with an AES digital I/O hookup into an old 888/16 interface. All my interfaces (6) 888s, (1) Adat Bridge I/O, the L2, Eventide Orville, TC Finalizer 96K, Sony DRE-S777 are clocked with an Aardsync II and Sync DAs. I also use an API mic pre patched into the analog inputs of the L2 and get two additional channels of high end converters with the added benifit of a really nice limiter for tracking.

Re: Which Mastering Limiter to use?
IMO the best look ahead limiter plugin has to be the Waves L2....The L1 is also excellent but there is a certain sweetness about the L2 that catches your attention when you limit you source hard in comparison to the L1.
Never tried Maxim.....Never had to... ;-) Go for it...you won't be disappointed..... Allen Yu |

Re: Which Mastering Limiter to use?
I always use Channelstrip first cause it sound very similar to the SSL compressor.
Then I use TC Masterworks for about 5-7 db

Re: Which Mastering Limiter to use?
MCDSP plugins rock. I was getting "hash" until i started using them. Program leveler is a lifesaver when in a hurry. I'm playing with the multiband compressor now instead of the TC-Masterx
