Default C/24 pre amp really just 003 pres

Are the C/24 pre amps really just 003 pre amps
Im I suppossed to be impressed I was seriously thinking about getting one of these used untill I saw the preamps were the 003s It is hard to belive a $10,000 mixer /controle surface would have the same pre amps that a $750 interface would have. Please tell me the site I read that on was wrong
I really hope that is inacurate

I think I should apolagize for the negative stir this caused this was not my intention
Read Brad Lyons comments he has a good idea of what the C/24 has to offer

Pretty sure the C24 pres are from Focusrite while the 003's are not. The top line spec's straight from avid.com look different also. You could try checking Sound on Sound mag reviews or similar.
Mike.

Unfortunately, Focusrite did a low cost line of products in the early 2000, Platinum series which was far away from "Focusrite quality". They were crap actually and the preamps in the older Control 24 are from the platinum series. I don't know which preamps C24 uses.

Actually, the C24 has nothing to do with Focusrite----the Control24, however, did. The pres on the Control24 were from Focusrite and really about the level of the old Green Series. The C24 is a 100% Digidesign product. The micpres on the C24 are useable sure, but they aren't anything to compete with even their own DigiPre unit. What you're buying in the C24 is really the control surface system----the fact that there are micpres built-in really is a bonus. The C24 is not a mouse---a mouse can't allow you to control multiple channels at a time in the mix, on the fly, and at any moment. Can you mix drums real time with a mouse? No, you can't.....Mixing is about feel and the dynamics, a mouse can only allow you to edit and set points of volume. Try grabbing a single fader and do a consistently smooth fade-out v/s doing it on a fader---you can't, because the mouse is jumpy. On the C24 you can do this in .1dB increments, good luck doing that with a mouse. Now this is ONE fader----try doing this on several at a time, or automating your Aux's, Pans, etc. It just can't be done with a mouse.....

Your 100% correct Brad. My frustration came about when I thought I could seriously upgrade my Mackie D8B both as a crapy control surface while adding much improved pres. Im sure those pres are better than mine but not much.
Then I read just about everything I could find on the New C/24 and an hour in I found an artcal review that said the pres were actually the digi003 pres
I was already dreaming of how I was supposed to miraculously find 7 grand to buy a used one only to feel a little let down. C24 is a absolutely a great control surface I just thought it would be a big upgrade to my preamps as well
I just dont have the kinds of money yet to buy a board of that price where sound quality isnt its strong point
wasnt trying to rag on a great product. Just a little dramatic to make things fun
Thanx for setting me straight

A common misconception for newbies. The C24 is a mouse...and a studio centerpiece, but not a mixer/console.

I recommended a Control|24 to a studio owner friend once and his tech called me yelling and screaming that this was the most unbelievably useless mixer he's ever installed

What about the mic pres in the Focusrite Saffire series, particularly the Saffire Pro 40. How much better (or worse) are they compared to the other products described here?

The Focusrite platinum (Octopre) series are not crap... they are serviceable, affordable bread and butter mic pres... let's not get to snobby here.
