Default whats your style of making midi drum tracks?

I'm just curious as to how others do this... I have been experimenting with it for a short while now, and have come up with a fairly simple system...

just use one track for kick and snar, and then another to make all the extras (hats, cymbals, toms etc.)

I do this using one of my keyboards... then quantize and use the editing features of PT to add in stuff or correct mistakes.

anyway, I was with a friend who is a pro pianist and watched him progamming a drum track... he did it all on one take, quantized and then added in more kicks on the double kick part. there was alot less mistakes on his, and he did it in about a quarter of the time I take on an average song.

Anyway, I just found it fascinating... and I want to know how everyone else goes about doing this.

Default Re: whats your style of making midi drum tracks?

Hi,

I usually use 5 tracks.

-Kick

-Snare

-HiHat

-Toms

-Cymbals

I then make a "flat" audio track for each, apply EQ, plug-ins etc.. individually to each track. Then, if I need more CPU power or track count I will merge(bounce) the 5 tracks into one stereo track and get rid of the 5 MIDI and 5 individual Audio tracks.

It takes way longer than using only one track but I have ultimate control over how everything sounds.
