Question Digi 003 Rack power up - is this normal?

Hey guys, I just bought a used 003 rack, and I don't have any manuals, but just a quick question:

When I turn it on, without anything else plugged in, it takes about 5 seconds, it clicks about 4 times and the lights flash in weird ways. Is this a normal power up procedure?

I came from the MBox 2 so my only question is just that...

Yep.

When it's finished you should see a small yellow light about the middle of the unit that is labeled HOST (your 1394 connectivity). Also the red MUTE button will be lit.

If you use any sort of a midi controller with it (plugged into the back of the 003), I found that I need to hit a key on the controller right after turning on the 003.. or sometimes it doesn't know the controller is there and you have to exit PT and start again to get it to work.

You will really enjoy the 003. (although updating the firmware can be a bit of a bugger sometimes)

Peace!

Cool. Thanks a lot. Where do I check if I have the most recent firmware? Does Pro Tools check that automatically?

I have to go download the manuals, I'm curious about how much power it will draw if I leave it on all the time...

One more thing: It's asking me if I want to update the firmware from 7.4 to 8.00 etc.....

SHOULD I? What is the most stable firmware version?.... I'm scared to trust Digi on this...

PS: I'm updating right now, with the 003 plugged through an external firewire drive....

PPS: OK it's been updating for 20 minutes now... :/

Cool :) working now. seems good. Now I have to use it for a couple months, and I'll post back on the difference of stability of the audio engine, when compared to a USB bus powered Mbox 2...

My 003 Rack Normally makes the ticking sound then power up.
However, For about a week now ....everytime I push the power button, it ticks once and does not come on. I have to keep switching between the on and off position before it eventually stays on.

What do you think is causing this?

The 'ticking' is normal, (at least mine has always done it and I've seen others say so),.. Conversely, the NOT-ticking is not. If you have to power on and off until it stays I'd say a trip to the service department is in line.

The 002's had an issue with their power supply, but I've not heard much of anything bad about the 003 at all. DTS may chime in here.

If it were me, I would look at repairing it.. depending on the cost, maybe investigate the Black Lion Mod for it.. (some folks like em, some don't).

It may end up being something as simple as a power switch or it could be a processing board..

Honestly, Good luck with that one..
