Default I want the dirt back...

Hi everybody,

I am recording lots of garage rock, hardcore etc... i used to record on a DIGI 001 since my taperecorder died. never got good results mixing in the box. I´ve always sent 16 tracks to my desk, with common analog outboard equipment(BSS comp on drum bus, avalon 747 master, sherman, electrix etc)I used a lot preamp overdrive, too - fine

I recently got my HD2 incl massivepack- to make it easier to work on more projects the same time.
I did my first mixes and i am impressed. I get the power, the punch, the warmth, the clarity... BUT not the dirt...

what emulates something like the +10 db switch on my avalon, or the sound of the peaklimiter of the
BSS nearly to melting ...?

I made some good things with the aphex plugs on bass and drums, but at the end a lot sounds like...new metal...javascript:void(0)

please share your tricks

thanks, ringo.fire

EL - Distressor and/or Fatso?

One of many options.

another vote for the FATSO, pluginwise PSP VintageWarmer is pretty good for dirt/gel and so is Sony Inflator.

thank you for your advices, I will give vintage warmer a try and I agree with the fatso (but thats outboard too, isnt it?)

TCworks fuzz sat is great (included in SPARK)-but its VST

by the way, Bob Moulds Workbook is a great record...

Try the Cranesong Phoenix. Very impressive, but might be too subtle for your needs.
Demo at : http://www.cranesong.com/prephoenix.html?

Mc DSP Analog channel might be more your taste http://www.mcdsp.com/

DUY dadTape and dadValve are nice as well http://www.duystore.com/com/download.html

The Crane song loads about 20 per HD chip. McDSP Is lean as well.
DUY gets about 2 instances per chip.

EVENTIDE LEGACY - OMNIPRESSOR rules!

McDSP AC

Waves C4

Waves Rennaisance comp

All 4 can produce very convincing hard compression/dirt
