Default Is there a demo for the Massenburg EQ?

I can't find one at Digi or GML's site.

I don't think there's a demo...

I loaded the plugin last night... very, very nice. I've been running the Sony EQ with GML since it came out.. (plus fltr bank, BF pultec and Digi Focusrite eq), but most of the time is the Sony.. Must say the MDW does sound great. you won't be disappointed.. (Made the snare and kick the best I've gotten with plugins.. on gtr and voice it was 50/50 between the sony/gml and the mdw... however, this was only with an hour or so of testing so far..)... I'm glad I got it...

There is no question, it sounds great and can really obtain some radical curves.
Do be warned however, that it is not light on DSP. I don't think I would recommend this as your only EQ unless you have a lot of process cards.

I picked it up as part of the Massive Pack, and it has become my new favorite EQ for drums and the master fader. I had been running my master fader mix out to a hardware Sontec EQ (George Massenburg designed for Sontec 20+ years ago coincidently) and a pair of LA-3A's. But in a few weeks of testing so far the Massenburg EQ actually sounds better to me than the Sontec.

No plug-in does what the hardware LA-3A's do yet though.

I do prefer the Sony for vocals, and Filterbank sound pretty good for guitars and lots of other things. Filterbank is DSP friendly too.

Jeff, how are you using your LA-3A's? Is this mastering compression, or do you mix with them on the master fader?

Thanks for the MDW reviews everybody.

I'm using them as inserts on the master fader. Mostly for rock music.

Most compressor plug-ins to me just sound like the volume is being turned down when they are compressing (duh!) but the LA-3A's change the tone as they are compressing, which gives rock music a more "feeling of loudness" without actually compressing too hard. I rarely see more than 5db of compression on the loudest parts, with 1-2db typical.

With plug-in compressors I have to compress a lot more db to get that same feeling. And then the extra compression sucks the life out of the mix.

I'll qualify this by saying that I like an old-school rock sound; the LA-3A's probably wouldn't be for everyone. And if I had some really cool analog compressors like an Alan Smart to choose from I might not use the LA-3A's, but they're pretty good for me right now.

That sounds cool. I’d love to hear what you’re talking about - with the LA3A’s.

I really need to try out a Smart - just so can put to rest my couresity.

BTW: Where in So Cal are you? - maybe you’d like to try out the Smart when I demo it. (I’m near LAX myself)

i'd be very carefull with this plug.

the best way to describe why would be this;

do a mix with the GM plug on your master. do all the tweak head moves it will allow you to do and bounce.

then bypass the GM plug and put up an e6 filterbank with a favorite preset for the master. don't listen while you bounce.

after you bounce, a b the two bounces.

you will most likely be in shock when you hear the difference.
