Default Why do MIDI clips do this?

When using MIDI Retrospective Record, the clip boundaries around MIDI notes in the EDIT window are truncated and shorter than their MIDI note values. They seem to be just randomly encasing only the front quarter of the MIDI notes, with random breaks too. The second pic is from a single Retrospective Record event, yet it's broken up into 3 sections, all shorter than the MIDI notes.

If you then want to Commit these tracks to audio, you first have to Consolidate the MIDI clip and manually drag its end out to the right.

This only started happening a few years ago. I kept thinking it'd just get fixed, but it's still an issue.

Any thoughts on how to fix this?

In some sessions previous to 2022.9 I get just the opposite. I'll edit velocities within a clip and then get an OVERHANG of blank clip space up to the next clip.
So I feel ya on the opposite end of the spectrum.
It definitely disrupts workflow having to resize things.

But yeah, upon recording? That IS weird.

Do the clips still appear that way after re-opening a session?

That is ODD!

On my issue it only happens if you use Retrospective Record, which I use all the time. It doesn't happen in regular record mode.

And yes, it still appears that way after re-opening a session.

Yeah I have that happen. Today, even. I try not to overthink it, and either grab them and make a new Clip Group, or consolidate them. They’re just containers for the MIDI data.

Does it happen in both Clips & Notes view?

I haven't used the Retrospective feature yet so have never experienced it.

I would try notes view(my preferred view anyway).

It's an annoyance. I had gotten in the habit of selecting and consolidating after each Retrospective recording, or even sometimes creating a long region first, then recording in it. Just one of dozens of reasons I gave up on PT for MIDI. I still use it for everything else. But I'm done trying to compose in it.

There are no clips boundaries in Notes View, so it won't happen in that mode. But to do general editing in the Edit window and move clips and audio together, you need to be in Clips mode.

This seems like a simple fix that has just gone by the wayside. In a industry standard flagship app such as Pro Tools, this type of visual bug presents as sloppy, and should be fixed ASAP.
