Default Fw Ext Drive damaged

Both my ext Fw hard disks connected to my M-audio 410 are damaged and are not mounting anymore. Is it possible that the M-audio 410 is the cause of this? At the begining I was thinking it was an issue related to my laptop but
the mac specialists said my laptop is ok.
Is anyone else experimenting a similar issue ?
I m now trying to recover all data on my ext drive but before connecting my
FW 410 to a new drive I wonna be sure this is not the cause of the damage..

thanx

At least in LE land Digi recommends connecting the drives and the interface like this. Computer>HDD> Interface -This way if the interface is accidentally powered off it wont corrupt the data on the HDD. Not sure that M-Audio recommends the same connection scheme but the information is offered as it sounds like the most likely culprit of data corruption in your case.

actually M-audio suggest Computer\interface\Ext Drive.
This was the sequence I v been using mostly...some time I was also using the other way around as you suggest...lately only the second solution was working...at the end both ext HD were damaged....I do not know if the cause was the M-audio interface ...any known issue related to this?
On the M-audio forum no one is answering..hope to have more luck here..
thanx

run disk repair under disk utilities and also dis warrior if you have it. If you dont have it...get it. And always eject/unmount disks before shutting them off. Remember it is also most likely the enclosure that is damaged if there is actual mechanical damage. I find the enclosures last about one year in (sh)city air.

I v tried disk repair and all that Digi suggestion but nothing worked out.
Now my ext drive is in the hand of a data recovery expert in Bangalore.
They ll open it and try with a different enclosure...
The M-Audio expert said it could be caused by hot plug in the M-audio interface. New Mac even wen shut down send power to the firewire port and this could be the cause . According to him this is becoming a hot issue
This is the link to the same topic in the M-audio forum

I recently had a similar problem with my two LaCie Quadra drives. Both went down at the same time. Replacing the power supplies got them up and running...no problems since.
