Default can't record

Hi guys,
I'm not able to record. Says I can't save session.
Check disk allocation and if read only disk, or some such message.
My drive is set to record, and the allocation is to the drive

I get error (-50).

also having trouble ejecting my drive - "the disk -- wasn't ejected because one or more programs may be using it". This is after I've quit pro tools.

Anyone know what's happening here?

I tried trashing preferences.

Running pt 10 on an imac.

A few more details on your computer setup would be helpful - just saying PT10 on an iMac isn't enough. Are you trying to record to the system drive? Not recommended. -50 message could be a precursor to a drive going bad - happened to me.

Why are you trying to eject the disk?

I'm recording to the external drive ( G -drive ).

I tried to eject the disk so I could restart. I have drive > mbox pro 3rd gen >
computer. I"m supposed to start things in order, so if I restart, I turn on drive, mbox, computer.

Thanks.

You don't need to eject a drive to restart or shut down a computer. Just shut down like normal and then shut power to the drive and the interface. What is a G-Drive? Specifics please and how it's connected to your iMac. If it's a green drive that's a no-no.

And again - we need more info on your computer setup like what's in the iMac, memory, OSX version, PT version (not just that it's PT 10).

Hey Phil - yes I do have read and write permissions.

Musicman -
thanks - Is there a difference between ejecting, and just shutting down and turning off? I thought either was ok.
G drive. No, it's not a green drive. http://www.g-technology.com/products/g-drive.

connection is drive>mbox pro 3rd gen>computer

It's imac 10.6.8 w 8gb memory and pro tools 10.01

I hadn't had any issues. That's what's bizarre. Just happened yesterday, after being fine for, I don't know 2 yrs??

Today, I started up, it took forever ( few minutes ) for the drive to show up on my desktop, and then everything was fine. All working. Strange.

There's no difference but why go through an extra step when shutting down? Just shut the computer down with the drive still mounted and powered and then shut the drive and any peripherals down after the computer is done shutting down.

You're only on 10.01? That's an old version, latest is 10.3.7. Check disk allocation in PT and make sure the drive is okay to write to (this is separate from read/write in OSX).

Yes, as stated in original post, I checked disk allocation, and drive is set to record.
seems bizarre, but seems to be fine right now.

How old is the g drive? Could be giving u signs that it's about to go. I would back it up if you don't already!

Thanks Glen. I think it's about 2 years old. Doesn't seem that old??

Musicman. I guess at one point I thought it may be preferable to eject the drive, but I guess that's not the case. The other reason I eject though, is sometimes, I'm done using pro tools, and just want to surf the net, and figure I shouldn't just leave the external drive running all day. Does this make sense, or it's a bad idea?
