Rosetta->001: which connection type would be best?
All,
I picked up a Rosetta 96KHZ 2-channel A/D and would like to know which connection type would yield the best performance (i.e. XLR, SPDIF, etc..)? Thanx in advance! - GAPE |

Spdif....... If you use XLR, I think you would be going through extra damaging conversion.
I dont have the APogee but that's what I am using on my converters. -S0nguy |

Re: Rosetta->001: which connection type would be best?
Damn! That's right. I forgot about the 001's crappy converters (which is pretty ironic since they are what lead me to purchase the Rosetta in the first place... lol).
Thanx! |

Re: Rosetta->001: which connection type would be best?
>you don't specify what model Rosetta..
However, if it is used for A/D conversion in front of PT LE hardware , SPDIF on coax will work. Not sure if ADAT optical is available on Rosettas, that could also work..giving 2 channels of either SPDIF or ADAT format. 75 ohm coax is preferred for clocking reasons over the optical. Besides, no PT LE hardware can receive above 48Khz over the lightpipe port, using ADAT opt. protocol. The XLR you have mentioned is a true 110ohm, transformer balanced digital connection, referred to as AES/EBU. So...SPDIF for you, on coax.. cheers,

-You can use the optical as ADAT and still have your RCA SPDIF available for something else. -You can use RCA SPDIF and have your optical available for ADAT. -You can use the optical as SPDIF dut you will lose the RCA SPDIF. Remember you can't use two SPDIF's at the same time. The AES will be used when you add a DAC, it will allow your DAC to hear the ADC while it feeds a signal to the 001 without monitoring through the 001's converters. |

I just updated which Rosetta I purchased above. Sorry I left that out...

Re: Rosetta->001: which connection type would be best?
Also when you do connect your Rosetta throught SPDIF go into your DIGI settings and select the clock to come from SPDIF. That way you will clock off of the Apogee which will be better than the 001 clock.

Hey GapeOne ,
Quote:
" 2 channels " of SPDIF is just that ...stereo signal into either the RCA or ADAT ports.. 1 cable/1 connection...=2 channels of audio happy tooling,
