Default Spontaneous Reboot - creating user database

Hi,
I'm working directly with Microsoft on this issue. We've discovered a few interesting things about my system and have made some changes, but the problem occurs so seldom that it's hard to know we're making headway. However, we would like to collect some data about your machines if you have suffered with this problem. (Now doesn't that sound like Microsoft?!?)

If you have had this problem, then please respond either on this thread or by email to me directly with the following information:

1) Which OS are you running?
2) Any other sound cards in your system? What model?
3) System built by a major manufacturer? If yes, which one?
4) Which version of PTLE are you running?
5) Have you seen the problem outside of PTLE? (Just in Windows? What apps?)
6) Roughly, how often do you see it?

I am very interested in following this through and seeing if we can get some solutions for this.

Thanks in advance,
Mark

Thanks for investigating this matter It's very annoying. Interestingly, it doesn't happen to me in PTLE, but only while surfing the net. It was spontaneously rebooting before I got PTLE, but 8 months after I got my system.

1) Which OS are you running?
Windows ME
2) Any other sound cards in your system? What model?
Sound Blaster live value digital
3) System built by a major manufacturer? If yes, which one?
DELL
4) Which version of PTLE are you running?
5.1

5) Have you seen the problem outside of PTLE? (Just in Windows? What apps?)
Never in PTLE (knock on wood) just while surfing the net

6) Roughly, how often do you see it?
Very inconsistent (it can happen 3 times a night or not for days at a time)

Thanks again for investigating this problem. If you have an answer please reply at [email protected]

Bump - thanks to those who replied.

Are there really only 7 of us? I thought this problem was much larger.

I'll bump it again in a few more days and then that will be it.

1) WIN ME
2) Sound Blaster Audio PCI
3) self built
4) 5.1.1
5) yes - windows media player
6) i can get it to happen by opening multiple instances of WMP in quick sucession. this is normally done to preview drum samples or similar material - PT doesn't even have to be open. however, using the same version of WMP in XP doesn't cause this to happen...
