Try using the ATTO Express Pro Tools utility to update drivers on the drive.

It sounds like you may have an older version of FWB, or similar, drivers on the drive and you're running Mac OS 9.x.

You can use the ATTO utility to update the drivers without losing any data on the drive. This is however a temporary fix.

To fix it totally, you should back up all the data on your drives and re-initialize them with the ATTO utility. This should take care of the problem.

Another workaround is to power the drives down, boot up the system , then power the drives up using FWB, ATTO or whatever mounting utility you want.

Default 2 inits at bootup

Time to resurrect this issue again. Is Digi planning any fix for the 2 inits conflict at bootup? Digisupport mentioned on the DUC that it was some old code in the DSI causing the problem, but phone support threw it back on Apple & the OS. It's really causing us headaches, any solutions? No, powering up the drives afterwards and mounting manually is not a solution; its really a pain with a remote KB & monitor.

So John,
Are you recomending the Atto drivers over the FWB?

Thanks
Bill

I have a client with 2 systems, 9 UW SCSI Hot-Swappable HDs per system. We had to use ATTO drivers because HDT 3.0.2 gave us the dreaded 2-init problem. This was back in January and the HDs have worked happily since then. Setup: G4/450, OS 9, Digi/Magma 13-slot Chassis, 7 Mix Cards, 2 SampleCell+s, ATTO 2-channel SCSI. Tons of USB stuff.

Sorry but I can't resist some bragging: One of the songs made with these systems is currently in top 3 all over the planet. They would have killed me if the HDs wouldn't work so go ahead and reformat them with the latest ATTO software. I can assure you that those HDs have been through quite a lot in the past few months. In fact they hooked the both systems together because they ran out of tracks and bought a third one for editing. 64 trks ain't enough for all of us! This means that at least one system has been on the maximum track limit since February and everything still works fine.

Question to Digi: What about the HDT 4.0? Any test results yet?

Ciao,

Tarmo
