Default HDX question re: voice allocation

Does HDX make that whole TDM-RTAS plug-in voice-eating stuff a thing of the past? e.g. Can you put an AAX plug-in followed by an RTAS plug-in without it eating an extra voice?

Thanks

No. Same as before. Unless you're talking about AAXnative plugins. But it's the same with AAXdsp +native (AAXnative or RTAS doesn't matter) as it was with TDM+native.

One difference is that you start with 256 voices not 192 and the voice count is expandable to 768 with the addition of HDX cards.

Yes, I suppose that would make things a bit easier. I was brought in to tart up a mix that someone else had started on an HD system, and they had no idea about maximising resources, the whole thing was a bloody nightmare. I ended up transferring the whole lot to my HD Native rig where it ran like a dream.

Yes this still happens, but 1) you've got more voices, and 2) It uses half the number of voices as HD to do this. DSP->RTAS->DSP with HDX only uses 1 voice, as opposed to HD which used 2 for that transition.

Thanks for the info guys. So, at a practical level, have you guys stopped worrying about which order to put plug-ins on? Or is there still the issue with going over the maximum delay compensation time?

Here's a good thread on the topic. You'll have to weed through some of the noise, but there's some good insight on the subject.
