Default A question about volume and mastering.

So I finally have all my recording equipment and Vi's and plug ins, so I can finally get my first song done. I am almost done mixing it, then I will master it/

My question is though, since my first song will be going on the digital market, how do I know exactly when my volume of my whole track is loud enough like most music produced today?

Like is there a "standard" music level that I want my track to peak at, so that I know it is loud enough like other music on iTunes etc...

Or is there a different matter about going through this whole thing?

Oh and when I master the track, I down mix it to 44.1, 16 bit WAV right?

Why don't you simply compare your mix to existing songs, if you're not sure?

Just send it to some one to master - they usually have better equipment and better rooms and better monitoring speakers and its really cheap when u look at a per song type of structure

Except don't use Death Magnetic as your comparison. Almost anything rock oriented nowadays is way over compressed with no dynamic range at all.

Hey Friends

Sorry to butt in here, I just wanna ask why I read a few times not to use Metallica's 2 latest albums to compare or use as refference? I'm a huge Metallica fan although I produce mainstream pop and rock for established artists so I'm just curious why you think DM and SKOM are badly done. Would appreciate any answers or links to Metallica sound bashing sites

Peace and Love
Chris

I think most people here are talking about dynamic ranges on current recordings - you know the loudness wars

U really wanna be looking for a type of genre of music that u want to track or mix -

I don't think it's anything personal with mtlka or anybody else
