I usually try to align the waveforms down to the sample, a hard thing to do with vocals but easier with drums.....
I dunno how you end up with vocals out of phase but you can try applying a 1 band eq to a track. The digi EQ (and the compressor also)plug in has a phase switch button.

Good luck

You can reverse the phase of one of the tracks, also you can set a small delay on one of them, say 10ms.... that will offset the phase shifting

Are you using different plugs on each vox track? RCL has a HUGE amount of latency - if one of your tracks has an RCL on it and the other one doesn't, they will be quite a bit out of phase. Since you have two separate vocal tracks that have no phase relationship to each other, chances are what you are hearing is harmonic modulation - detuning...not a phase problem. try autotune if the effect really bothers you.

Another thing that you could try depends on whether they're bounced down to one track. If not, pan them out a bit from each other. The way you describe it, it does sound like phase interference, like you bounced a track on top of itself somehow, but lets keep at it and nail this turkey.

I think cinemafixer is right If one track is a little sharp or flat it can give a chorus type of effect.I used to do that with my old otari tape deck by doubling the track and changing the speed of the deck with the pitch control slightly when recording the second track.Hey your getting free chorus stu

the method i use to determine if something is a phase problem is this: Either pan them out, or mute one of the suspected channels. If you hear a sudden change in sound (music seems to come from within the stereo-range, or a sudden increase of the punch and presence of the sound its a phase-problem.

Harmonic modulation is what you also hear (and maybe use) to tune a guitar. You hear 2 notes (one slightly out of tune) and then you hear a third tone. That is because of the interference between the 2 soundwaves (one slightly out of tune, and you will hear the difference)

To hear what phasing does to sound try this: Take a stereo-track with some audio on it, put on a dverb. slide it to 0% wet (no effect) and press the phase-switch for one of the channels (the O with a slash through it) and suddenly there's a difference in the sound....

To avoid phase during recording there is something like the 3:1 rule. If you record something with more then one mic you have to watch out for phase problems. You best then make sure you (for example) set the mic's on 1 foot to the instrument to record and make sure they are 3 feet or more seperated....

Hope this helps

This may be a silly question but are you ambient miking your drums with an XY pair (or a stereo mic)? If ambient mics are not close enough together or far enough apart (many factors starting with the room), you can get serious phase weirdness esp. with cymbals...
