Self paced learning?
Are there any self paced learning courses available for Pro Tools? I've brought the PT101 eBook from the Avid store but they do not have eBooks for PT110 onwards. Are there eBooks available for PT110 onwards? Is there any video training available that is self paced? Thanks.

Re: Self paced learning?
Check out Groove3.com. They have probably the best tutorials available

Re: Self paced learning?
Thanks. Is there sufficient content there to be able to pass the PT101, PT110, PT201 and PT210P exams?

Re: Self paced learning?
Are you familiar with the exams? I'm just wondering if the exams are multiple choice questions or questions only?

Re: Self paced learning?
When I took the exams (210M, 210P, 310M, 310P) it was v6. If it's structured the same, it's multiple choice and a lot of the questions are specs on the latest version of Pro Tools, almost like quizzing you on an infomercial. It wasn't much practical knowledge back then. I hope there are sample tests for you.

Re: Self paced learning?
For me, I question the value of passing the tests(which might be important for a student). Passing the tests seems secondary to being able to show some quality work

Re: Self paced learning?
If I want to get into and work in Post Production is proper training going to be necessary?

Re: Self paced learning?
I guess this depends on your idea of "proper" training. As a studio owner and possible employer, I would probably place equal value on an internship and you being able to demonstrate the ability to "deliver the goods". Many years ago, I hired a Full Said graduate that turned out to have very little ability, while another hire(same time period) who came in with little to no formal training, turned out to be a much better engineer(sometimes attitude can trump training). Having said this, I am very "old school" so we both might benefit from some "new school" insight

Re: Self paced learning?
I supervise a small team of sound editors for a broadcast network. When hiring, I expect it to take 3-4 months until someone is up to speed with how things work re: workflows, equipment, ancillary software, etc. One thing I don't need is for new hires to also struggle with the DAW (in our case Pro Tools) or, even worse, mixing concepts. Thus someone having a PT Operator or PT Expert certification gives me some peace of mind that I don't have to spend time teaching the software.
