Default Cue Mix Help Please

I am having trouble understanding how to access an individual pair of pro tools outputs to create a discrete cue mix as stated in the control 24 manual here:

To create a discrete stereo cue mix with Pro Tools
Sends:
1 Connect a pair of Pro Tools outputs to the
Control|24 AUX IN inputs.
2 Make sure your cue mix system is connected
to the Control|24 AUX OUT outputs.
3 Assign a pre-fader stereo send on each channel
and Aux Input needed for the cue mix (using
pre-fader sends enables you maintain a cue mix
independent of your main monitoring mix).

If I'm using a d-sub cable, how do I access just two individual outputs to connect to the Control 24?

Thank you very much,

Pro Tools 8.0.1
Control 24
HD2
Quad Core Mac Pro
4 gigs of ram

Hi,

You either have to split the cable and separate the outputs or do what most do and use a patchbay!

I use a patchbay with the control 24 and use the aux this way for my main headphone mix. using the aux simply means you have the aux control to set the overall volume! as the aux is simply a stereo in/stereo out with a volume control.

Thanks Chris,

Which patchbay do you recommend for someone needing 3-4 discrete headphone mixes?

I made my own Dsub to Dsub cable but split it to give me a couple of outs for my headphone amp., gives you control over what goes where without adding more connections to the signal path. Was a bit fiddly but worth it in the end.

Best way to go for the money might be a SAMSON S-Patch plus... uses 1/4" and all the normaling switches are on the front. You would need a d-sub to 1/4"TRS cable, or .... planet waves (and maybe others) make a breakout adapter that you could use with your d-sub to d-sub.
Search the DUC, there is a lot of good info regarding this. sb

Or use a HEAR system - http://www.heartechnologies.com/hb/hearbackintro.htm

Just take a DSUB out of one of your 192's to the HEAR system - or use the optical if you're recording at 44.1 or 48kHz

Patchbays.com

go TT. 1/4" has all kinds of problems, IMO. TT is where it's at.

You can get a DB25 bay, hook everything up, and half normal your PT outputs to feed whatever you want (C/24 AND a foldback, etc).

It's the best way to go. All sources go to the bay, all routing from the bay.

I'll agree that the 1/4" A-gauge (like a 1/4" headphone) are piss poor quality
but Long Frame 1/4" (B-gauge the end has a little ball) are as good if not better than TT
there just not as efficient in space 48 point vs 96 point

I like Bittree.com
I like the 3 pin ELCO connector style (easy to mod if/when it is needed)
