HD Native discontinued

Received an email fro AVID today telling me that HD Native Thunderbolt Core box is being discontinued. How may I ask, when the software/OS ceases to talk to it will you also solve the problem with the serial communication to the Sync HD? Or will that also cease to be like the proverbial parrot?!

pretty sure the HDN thunderbolt is just a HDN card in a pseudo TB chassis. And the HDN card is just the HDX card missing the DSP chips. So they will probably all work until HDX is gone unless a required HDX firmware upgrade for PT after 10 years from now borks the HDN card from working (but, honestly, if HDX cards are still part of Pro Tool in 10 years, I'll be surprised.)

As for the serial SyncHD issue, hadn't heard of it. But once EOL happens, I don't think Avid has ever went back and fixed bugs that existed. So I would not expect any fixes now if not already in the works. They won't do it between the EOL date and the end of (maintenance) support.

The final sale date for these products will be December 31, 2022. This means that Avid will no longer be manufacturing or selling these products to resellers or customers.

Until they deprecate Digilink the I/O's should be viable.

Yes. DigiDesign blue 192's still go on strong. I actually never had an Avid branded one as I had enough oldies and nothing is broken. Still getting 64 i/o on live gigs via HDN|TB (which really is not just HDX without DSP but a thing of its own). Using C24 which likely won't be seeing Apple Silicon age.

My home setup of Apogee Symphony II is likely to grow in the future. Currently only one box with both TB and HD options, but time will tell which is more useful.

I came here to ask about the Sync HD connection for Timecode. I guess it will all still work with legacy hardware as long as Protools supports the Digilink connection. But it seems going forward after this, the only way to get Timecode into Protools for new systems will be through an HDX card (until they cancel that too).

So, I'd like to know if Avid will start talking to third party clock hardware?

Up to this point, the clock/sync connection was the only thing keeping HD Native alive. How else can we get LTC, MTC and whatever those video clock formats are into and out of Protools?

MTC in/out works with any MIDI device.

(LTC is a problem though there are generators now like LockStep or the MOTU midi boxes. They either translate between MTC and LTC or do LTC direct. But only output direct since PT only allows direct understanding of LTC via a Sync HD/X box)

That is why I sold mine on Reverb.com a couple of years ago. Saw this coming pal-:) along with my Meyer EQ's that were custom with HODAS modes from Meyer. No need for any of it anymore along with the Dangerous ST and SR.. Got great prices on them and they were mint too!
