Default RTAS to VST adapter

To AIR instruments-
Was wondering when an RTAS to VST adapter will be made. (note the order of words though-RTAS to VST, Manny will no doubt reverse them and talk about the fxpansion adapter as if to play dumb)

But since we're moving on to AAX, can't some liberties be taken and cash in on a long awaited product??
The IEP would be much more useful on a platform that could actually play it on stage. Then audience members could actually hear it LIVE, imagine that..

It would behoove you to choose a live tree to bark up rather than a dead one.

Thumbs down Re: RTAS to VST adapter

Well Jimbo

Until an adapter is created it will always be a LIVE issue and about playing them in a LIVE environment and probably in a program called LIVE. Whether its me or someone else, there will still be people asking for and wanting it.

If you like playing these instruments alone in a dark studio with your bugs then I suppose for you it isn't an issue.

Avid owned Plug-ins are not licensed for use in other than Avid products. An adapter would be a violation of that license.

License Violation, such tough talk Jesus give us a break Tom.

The Idear here would be to change the license to "open status" so that rtas plug ins could be played on outside platforms(given they were bought and Iloked) And who would benefit? Avid with lots of sales of the IEP, and other Plug Ins

Pro Tools is the only platform that is this selfishly closed off with their Plug Ins

Diccer,
I'm not sayin' it would be tough to build or that it wouldn't be great to have, just that (as you already know) the current Avid business model doesn't embrace that kind of sharing. We'll be lucky if we can get an RTAS to AAX adapter, so we can still use some of that old legacy 3rd party RTAS stuff.

Beside, when RTAS is finally dropped in PT 11, there will be no more plugin manufacturers who will port their plugins in that format or soon after anyways, which also means that as daws advance, the plugins will become incompatible. So an RTAS to VST, even if the license allowed it, would be futile. It would be a loss of money for them to keep working on a format that will be dead. So there wouldn't be new plugins, although you could still use the old ones on other DAWs, which if avid wanted it, could create such an utility and sell it, making an other source of revenue.. But at that point why not just port the RTAS plugs to VST right away since it's an open format that Avid can use to dual format release their own plusings so they can then be sold to be used in other daws? Cause they don't want to feed their competitors with their own work.

Who can blame him for being short, it's not like this question doesn't get asked more than once a year.

I think Diccer is missing a point here. Avid always had the possibility to create a vst version of their plugins along side their RTAS format, so they could sell their plugins to work in other daws. Because the VST format is a free license. The reason they have not done it, is that it would enable other daws to use what PT has only for PT, potentially handing out more clients to the other daws. Which wouldn't be in the best interest of Avid what so ever. Beside that, 90% at least of all the other plugins that are not made by avid, already have their equivalence in vst. The only one that doesn't are those companies that only do plugin for Pro tools, and that's pretty rare I think. And once pt drops RTAS, those companies that only makes plugins for PT, so few are they, will then stop supporting RTAS at the same time.
