Book or Web Recommendations?
I was wondering if you guys could give me any good recommendations for sound in films? I am mainly interested in doing foley. (I believe that is what it is called.) I just want a good place to start. I have an 002R and PTLE 7.3 for Windows. I have a couple of decent mics and a little camcorder. I really just want to have a little fun with it and wanted to supplement myself with a little learning. I know it may seem silly to some, and that I may not have adequate equipment, but I would like to learn as much as I can with what I got

Thanks for all the suggestions! I'm really looking forward to checking those out. Any websites that you could recommend while I'm at work?

Re: Book or Web Recommendations?
Hey Steve,
Try www.filmsound.org. Also in books, one that isn't DIRECTLY about sound but will change the way you think about how you edit it: In the Blink of an Eye by Walter Murch

Re: Book or Web Recommendations?
The Holman, Sheppard, and Beauchamp books are all excellent. I'd also recommend Michel Chion's "Audiovision".
Yewdall's books is very informative about the business and the process. It's not the best read in the world, given his longwindedness and arrogant attitude. He knows his stuff, but I personally found it tiring. filmsound.org is one of the best things ever on the web. |
