There are a lot more AAX DSP developers as there were TDM Developers.
The plugin market is defiantly over-saturated - How many Pultec and Fairchild plugins out there?

Im with you on that one....here’s another

How many good Pultec’s and Fairchild’s (1176’s too)?

It’s gets smaller once you consider that qualification.

And that’s for both native and AAXDSP

I disagree, there are Decaptitator substitutes aplenty in AAX DSP land; among them the Dave Hill/Crane Song offerings and also the Vertigo VSM-3 and Black Box HG-2. I own Soundtoys 5 and rarely find myself reaching for Decapitator over any of those mentioned.

Saturation knob and sansamp works great for me.

Default No AAX DSP development ??

Decap is/was always too much for me.... I want smooth analog warmth.

Like the UAD LA2A or the 1176 collection.

I just picked up the Arouser from Empirical Labs and I hoping it fills this gap for me.

The gap is the tracking side....for mixing I will just use the UAD’s

All of those saturation plugins are personal choices. We love DeCapitator over here and use it all of the time. There are plenty of people who feel the same way about this plugin. The substitute’s that have been mentioned are fine sounding plugins but are quite different than Decapitator. This has been discussed before. Unfortunately, discussing this doesn’t matter much as nothing much is gonna change in the DSP DAW world. Luckily we’re all creative people and we’ll make good sounds happen however we have to.

Of course, everyone has their own preferences. The nice thing is you can still always use Native and DSP plugins together.

Yup. But not for tracking. And especially in the “mix as you go” scenario where you need, in our case at least, to have limiting plugins on the master bus. They need to be DSP plugins in order to not produce latency. Anything that produces latency is a non starter when it comes to tracking anything having to do with an artist for a record production.
