Default sound archive: how to bring back names from description to filename?

hi, my friend used the BWF MetaEdit to get all the names of his self-made FX and atmo-sounds into the "description" tag. I am just wondering, if we can return this easily. I am often so lazy that I just use the spotlight engine of OSX.
Is a app or an workflow out there to return the "description" tag in the file name?

thanks

Classic situation that can be solved with any version of Soundminer. Highly recommended. And then with Soundminer you don't have to use OS X search ever again...

Could maybe give Wave Agent a try from Sound Devices. It's free http://www.sounddevices.com/products...are/wave-agent

Base Head will do the job as well with batch processing.

doesn't do batch-operations like "copy description to file name"

My bad. Sounds like a 30 day trial demo of Soundminer should sort out the OP's problems then

maybe veering off topic a little - but actually I never understood why people use the meta data?

I have literally thousands of recordings I made over the years - and since year dot - I was labelling in the finder in a tag like manner.. 

I use audiofinder - which is a poormans soundminer it seems - altho its pretty good for me.. can pitch shift in realtime - use plug in..

and one feature it has is to copy original name to comments - alas not the other way?

?
Because you can have extensive descriptions in metadata.
So, the file could be called "dog barking"
The meta data could say "rottweiler barking far away, at the end of an ally at midnight in a deserted desert town, with wispy wind and creaking door".

Because when the file-name changes you don't lose all the info that's in the meta-data.

Frank.

thanks frank

I suppose being able to have a novel in the meta data could be useful ish - but I dont feel like I am struggling on my mac system

file name changes? if the name is truncated i guess?

actually I would prefer it if after dragging stuff in I could get it to lose all names and meta - might be uncharitable of me - but I dont want to make it super easy for unique recordings to be passed around.. labeled an all.. as a freelance editor with some experience my USP is probably a massive collection of recordings / foley I created.
