Beyer DT-150.
The same look like the DT-100 but sounds much better.

Cheers Wolfgang

I saw an advertisement for these new ATH-M50 Professional Studio Monitoring Headphones by Audio-Technica. Cost $200. Does anyone have more information? Please remember, my key reason is to reduce leakage from the headphones to the vocalists mic while tracking.

make sure you are willing to take on the fatigue factor on some of these phones

the sonys especially wipe me out

they sound nice but it's like worse than using NS10s all day

there is a price paid in ear wear to head phone isolation sometimes

is it worth it to you when you can usually figure out how to get it out with PT?

..i would second that, regarding DT-150s 's vs DT-100's.....still not the *greatest* sounding headphones, but good isolation, & pretty industry standard in the UK

Koss UR 20.

They don't sound great. But here's their positives:

1) They're $13 a pair. You can buy lots.

2) They're LOUD. Any amp can drive the pee out of them. And for kiddies playing rock and roll, thats good.

3) They're boomy. For Rap clients, that's the ticket anyway.

4) They're comfy. HUGE padded earmuffs. They don't pinch your ears after 6 hours.

5) They're durable. I bought 6 headphones in 2001. After 10-20 sessions a week every week for 5 years, 5 still work (and one needs some maintenance). And (not that I encourage this), these things are routinely dropped, kicked around the floor or thrown into a storage box.

6) Almost 0 leakage. I've got the Koss, AKG 241s and some AKG 140s. I put the Koss ones on most performers for tracking. With these things CRAZY loud, there is almost 0 leakage. Just standing in the room with a client who had them LOUD, you hear pretty much nothing. Great for drummers who crank the clicks.

Now, for more detailed vocalists, I'll stick the gold AKGs on them. But they usually don't listen as loud. For loud listeners, they get the Koss. Again, they're not great sounding. But they take a beating. And they last forever. And they're cheap. And for most pop music, they're fine. And they're more like what the kiddies are used to.

Sometimes, I even just let them plug in their ipod earbuds. It's what they're used to...

hope this helps

i agree

sorry to stray from the "leakage" topic BUT

in the rock world in studios with limited budgets

bad headphones is a good thing

but a nicer pair for the more critical listener is a nice luxury

http://recording.org/e-mag/article_96.shtml

check out these baby...i have 4 pair and can turn split them up for use by 8 in a big backing vocal session

rockers abuse phones.....they don't deserve your best phones. period.

they have hissy fits...many are not sober and don't treat even their own gear respectfully.

shrew 'em.

Oh man, is this the first "more me's" are being mentioned? I agree Jimmy. I have 4 pair's of more me's as well as 7506's and 240's. you have to graduate to the 240's and sony's.
