Mbox2- PTLE 8.0.1 meters frozen on yellow

24" imac, OS 10.6.2, OWC Mercury Elite Audio drive, PTLE 8.0.1 (waiting for 8.0.3 in My products), Sterling Audio condenser mic, Mbox 2

Switched out original Mbox for Mbox 2 (firmware 1.38).

Problem: Mic signal from XLR inputs on Mbox 2. When mono audio track is record enabled, PTLE meters freeze on yellow. There's no detectable input from mic at all.

Am I missing something or is this a hardware problem?
and where can I find the Mbox2 1.43 Firmware update?
Mic worked fine with original Mbox
I/O Audio 1 (in 1/out 1-2) Dosen't matter which input I try on Mbox
Record level, mix at 12 o'clock, input knob all the way to the left
Pad button off
Phantom power has no effect.
Nothing plugged in to DI jacks
MIDI I/O works fine for both headphones and monitor out.
AC-3 digital passthrough is UNchecked

I have the same problem in PT 8 and also in Garageband '09, so it's not the software.

The stuck meter clears when I record or play.

Perhaps related: I get pops when I arm or disarm for recording on a track, and nasty deep pops from the monitor speakers when the Mac goes to sleep or wakes up.

OK, I figured out the meter freeze. I disconnected all of the the Mbox connections except the USB, and restarted my Mac. Meters and mic input were fine until I plugged in my synth (which was off) into the same Line In input as the mic. That froze the meters and locked out the XLR input. Using only input 2 for the synth worked but created a whine and hiss. Did not have this issue with original Mbox. I must be creating a feedback loop but not sure how.

Have either of you tried trashing preferences or any of the other suggestions in the General Troubleshooting thread yet?

I have not trashed the prefs yet but it's working ok now.

I did use the tech support tools and did trash the prefs but it seems the only work-around, which I found in another thread, is to quit PTLE (8.0.3), shut down my imac, unplug the Mbox2 USB, plug it in again, and restart the mac, open PTLE. recording is ok then. This process has to be done each time I want to record.
