I have a GLYPH 1TB hard drive linked via firewire! That's my next trouble shooting task. I'll have to reset when PT records to and get back behind my rack but I'll do that tomorrow when I have a day off.

Will also try the additional Bios tip.

Recorded on Sunday in a different program with no problem so I'm confident I'll get it worked out in pro tools.
Am I to assume the problem with locking sample rates is no longer a problem? If so, can you start a new thread with your latest problem and provide the info we ask for in the Help Us Help You sticky, so that we can assist you further?

Have you tried NOT opening the DSP mixer (or any other application AND with your Sounds and Audio Devices panel set to something other than your Digi/M-Audio hardware) and just changing the buffer in Pro Tools?

To dig in any deeper we're going to need more info - can you post your Sandra report?

The same applies here - lack of info is the main reason threads go unanswered or unresolved. Look at that thread you linked to - serious lack of info there. Instead of us (or other DUC members) going 'try this or try this' - we've written the Help Us Help You and General Troubleshooting threads, as they cover a vast majority of the problems reported here on the DUC. It's easier to refer people to those threads than repeat ourselves over and over again. We want to help - but we need your info and participation to do so.

In your case, we're going to need more info to be able to help - a Sandra report is a great place to start. The Help Us Help You thread details what we need to know to provide proper assistance.
I'll move to another thread if you like, but I believe my issue is the same as others in this thread: Pro Tools forces the interface to a buffer of 64 samples upon startup -- regardless of what is set in the control panel before opening Pro Tools and regardless of what is set in the Playback Engine dialog after opening. Pro Tools DOES correctly adjust the sample rate in the interface control panel to match the session.

Running PTMP 8.0.3 on Vista 32-bit with an Audiophile 192. I have performed all of the Windows Vista optimizations referenced in General Troubleshooting, tried deleting databases and preferences, and disabling c1e in system bios. Additional hardware described in Sandra report:

Default Re: Profire 2626 DSP Mixer buffer is locked on 64 Bits

Correct, Buffer Lock Solved
As stated earlier I'm about 90% sure that Deleting the Prefs (as I should have seen in the trouble shooting folder) was what fixed it. It went to 64 upon the original load but now does reflect whatever changes that you make in the playback engine menu within PT8.

The root cause of my playback problem was a bandwidth issue with my built in Firewire port. Disconnecting my External Drive and recording to the hard drive eliminated my buffer issue. I installed an additional 1TB Internal Drive and plan to install an upgraded PCI Firewire port.

I apologize for my lack of info provided and I have taken the time now to read all the trouble shooting threads and will try to write more descriptive posts in the future. I do appreciate all the people that took the time to try to help with my issues and I'll do better in the future.

Default Re: Profire 2626 DSP Mixer buffer is locked on 64 Bits

SOLVED.

For me, the culprit was the "minimize additional i/o latency" option in the Playback Engine dialog. It is selectable only if the "ignore errors on playback/record" option is also selected.

In hindsight, that's probably not a PT bug. It's probably doing exactly what it's supposed to.

Honestly, I don't remember that option having been set before so I'm unsure whether I accidentally enabled it at some point or whether it was something I enabled while troubleshooting after I started noticing the problem. Either way, it's fixed now and everything is back to normal.

Ok, good to know you found the culprit! Sometimes it's the simple things - there are a lot of assumptions made that at time because of the myriad of options available. We typically assume the Playback Engine settings have been tried already but, in the future, we'll verify that in cases like these.
