Default Non-functioning Virtual Instruments

I'm having problems using the soft synths in Protools. Boom seems to work fine but all the other virtual instruments that came with my Protools 8 bundle either crash my system or have tons of distortion. Anyone else have this problem?
Solutions?
THanks a million!

System specs and Pro Tools version? Shouldn't have to ask.
