Default Will any of the white AVID pci exp.chassis work with 24mix?

Has anyone successfully used a white AVID expansion chassis with a 24mix tdm system running 6.4.1 on a mac g4 quicksilver? These are alot easier to find than the black Digidesign chassis! I wonder if anyone on here has tried it to find out? I bet it will work because they both look identicle on the inside.

I believe the AVID's use 18-bit convertors. I think at the time, they were the esoteric high end used in the professional video world in the early-mid 90s...

Yes they use 18 bit converters.

The biggest issue with them is the meters only have 3 segments. That and they are that ugly beige color.

They also will not work on the legacy port of an HD interface.

But they do pass 24 bit through their AES/EBU I/O, that's what I used to use them for.

I actually purchased one on ebay hoping it works. I'll let you know if it works in my Mix system. I struggled going between the AVID 888 and a 888/24. It was a $200 difference and my Digitech 400 only has 18-bit convertors anyways which is where I'd be using 4 channels of the Avid 888, so it's a wash.

From what I can tell they support 104db ceiling to noise floor which is probably better than the S/N in my home studio.

The OP is asking about the PCI Expansion Chassis, not the 888. Why is everyone discussing the audio interface?

Regarding the Chassis, I haven't tried it, but I don't see why it would make any difference. Afterall, both the digi and avid chassis were Magma products which were just re-badged. If the the digi one or the OEM magma one work (which they do) I would imagine the Avid one would too. They're cheap enough to try out anyway.

His post is almost a year old and he asked the same question somewhere else... If I remember correctly it was on the general discussion area. I remember replying to his other post.

There are a few quirks about some of the earlier ones, I think the ones before a certain serial number only work with OS9/PT5 or earlier... This info is in the "expanded systems guide" for each corresponding version of pro tools.
