If MacMini has 5400 RPM HD how it will run PT LE 7.3?
Hi friends,
I´m confused... At this page: http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?...5&itemid=24156 Digidesign say Mac Mini is good to work with Pro Tools 7.3. But at this: http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?...4&itemid=23142 Digidesign say a 7200 RPM Hard Drive is the minimum to Pro Tools works well. But, if all MacMini have 5400 RPM Hard Drive how is possible it to be a good choice? Thanks Marcos Vampa |

Recording to system drive is never supported or recommended. It *might* work, but it might just as well not. As you cannot have two hard drives in a Mac Mini, you will need an external hard drive.

Or may I install all PT stuff on external HD? And is it possible or recommended to have two different velocities HDs at same time (5400 and 7200)? Thanks, Marcos Vampa |

the proper way would be to install pro tools on the system drive (internal), then create your pro tools projects on the external drive. if you create your projects on a drive, pt automatically creates a folder and puts all audio files in it..

Look, I don´t know, really, if 5400 is slow, I just guess I saw a contradiction comparing two Digidesign web pages about minimum requirements... I still am in doubt if MacMini is really a good choice. Thanks Marcos Vampa |

digi recomends that you "record" to a drive that is at least 7200. trust me, 5400 rpm is plenty fast for a system drive. i have a macbook pro with a 5400 rpm internal drive. i record to external 7200 rpm firewire drive. works perfectly.. heck, i have even recorded multiple tracks to the internal drive with no problems...

OK, you convinced me.
I will wait a friend that travel to USA to bring a MacMini and an external HD for me. Here in Brazil a Mac costs twice the price in USA! ... believe me... Thanks, Marcos Vampa |

Re: If MacMini has 5400 RPM HD how it will run PT LE 7.3?
This is all good to know, but I've also been wanting to know if anyone has had any luck with the Lightbridge and a Mac Mini.
My current Mac, a G4 w/an accelerator card, won't work with the Lightbridge. I get pops and clicks that M-Audio claims is due to the card. The LB only has 1 FW port as well. I'm hoping it gets a long with a Mini and a daisy-chained outboard FW drive. Any thoughts? |
