Default Electronic drum question

I am going to be be turning one of my acoustic kits into an electronic kit and need to decide on which drum brain to buy. I primarily will be using it to trigger Steven Slate Drums in Pro Tools but I also want a standalone drum brain that I can load and midi map the SSD samples into and use in a live situation. Can the td-20 do this? I have 5 drum triggers and 5 cymbal triggers. So I need a brain with at least 10 inputs. Thanks for you help.

To my knowledge there is no electronic drum brain that allows importing of samples. The top line Yamahas have an audio input to allow you to actually sample something, but no importing of wav files, etc. The Rolands don't have any kind of sampling.

For live use you'd need to use a laptop running software. Another similar option would be the Muse Receptor devices.

Thanks for the reply. I figured what there was no drum brains that could import samples. I'm not a fan of the Roland stock sounds espescially for the price they want. $7,000 for their drumset that doesn't even sound that realistic is ridiculous when a $250 sampleset sounds WAY better. Anyway I'll probably just end up saving my pennies for until I can afford a Muse receptor. Been there done that with the laptop MIDI interface setup before and do no want to go that route again for a live situation.

If I'm not mistaken the brain from the new drumkit 2box can import samples.

Everyone needs to check out the new Pearl eLive kit and the new Alesis drum brain(which Pearl is licensing). The Pearl version allows for loading custom kits that are available from 3rd party companies like ToonTracks and maybe Slate and Oceanway.

Or do like Albee does and run the Roland through Superior Drums.. ( I suppose SSD would work as well, I'm just partial to SD2)

Then just use a laptop along with your kit when you play live..

My next big purchase is going to be a TD20 kit.
