Default help on choosing midi sound module

hello everybody, i want to extend my mixes/recordings with some midi module sounds
i have 500 dollar/1000 euro.
lately i have received some requests from clients to make songs/arrangments/commercials or a band that seeks some extra sounds for thicking up the mix.
i have searched the internet and came up with 2 modules: emu proteus 2000 and roland xv 5050. i've been to the music shop to audition them both, but i still can't figger out which of the 2 modules to take.
i'm mostly in the pop/rock/latin scene. (no dance). so i'm looking for good piano, strings, brass and pad sounds.
are there more sound modules ?
which of the 2 will be best ?
for me : the emu has better piano's, greater polyfony, multitimbrale and more outputs plus a handy audition function.
the roland is new so i can't really figger out what the strong points are, but the other roland sound modules sounds fine.
many thanks, tantejo.

Try uot the Yamahas A4000,"about$500"it is really good for the prise.A4000 is a sampler and comes with 10Sampels CD's.Wiht great ,acoustic sounds of drums, pianos, strings, brass, bass, ...everything,even DJ staff same loops...I've been using it for about year now and very happy.Or the second option is Akai S5000 for about the same prise, but it doesn't come wiht anySampels so you have to buy those separate!!! Believe me my friend the best way to go is Sampler.

tantejo,

Of the two sound modules you mentioned, I would go with the Roland. There's something about Proteus sounds that seem too electronic to me.
Also, you should check out some Korg modules just for comparison. I have an 01R/W, but it's gettin pretty old. Need to update or add-to myself...

Definetely the Roland XV-5050.
I believe it's a new light version of the XV-3080 and XV-5080 modules, minus a few bells and whistles at half the price.
I have yet to hear more beautiful pianos, strings, Rhodes and such than on these guys.

In fact, I'm considering selling my XP-30 and getting me one of them 5050's.

By the way, is this 5050 out in the US yet? I did a search on the common sites but in vain...

Hi,
Neither of the two store I spend time at here in the aAy Area have it yet. It looks quite interesting on paper and one guy heard it at NAMM and said he liked it a lot.

I think the Emu modules have too much midrange in the samples. This makes the module stand out in a mix better, but I think it makes them sound cheezy to an extent, or electronic as said before. The Roland has a much better sound and a very powerful synth engine, so when you program your own sounds you'll be able to do much more with it. Also the effects are much better on the Roland. The 5050 won't be out for a month or more as far as I know, but I want a bigger module anyway.
