Default Processor Bog-down. Any Upgrades?

I have a Mac G4 400mhz OS 9.0.4 Memory=576mb running PT5.1.1...

Are there any upgrades that I can make to improve processing? I'm getting plug-in overload on more of the better plug-ins, i.e., Waves, Bomb Factory, etc. I've tweaked my monitor settings to low numbers, disabled extensions, made use of aux. channels limiting plug-in usage, but after 20 or so plug-ins it begins the major bog. I know more RAM won't help much and I'm thinking I should upgrade the internal processing board, but I'm not too sure of my options. I'll be researching this, but I was hoping someone might know off the top of their head. Any ideas?

Uh, try the search function

Try "sonnett 1ghz upgrade results" for starters

One side of the fence says that ALL processor upgrades are "not worth the trouble"

The other side has been using them all powerlogix, sonnett, gigadesigns, etc.

And so far NO ONE is complaining.

It doubled my power for sure.

However, I will say that by going from 9.1 to 9.2.2 I lowered my track count...

Kris,
Thanks for the tip. That's a good starting point for my research. By the way, how many tracks did you lose upgrading to 9.2.2?

I recently purchased and installed a Gigadesigns G4 upgrade. It was easy to configure and install, and is working great. I have a G4800 (no L3 cache), so upgrading to a 1.2 ghz processor with L3 cache has made quite a difference. I am very happy with it.

Hope you read this before digi deletes it.....

Lately EVERYTHING i type gets deleted....

I lost about three tracks going from 9.1 to 9.2.2

And then I added the card and got a lot more, so I would say that if you don't need 9.2.2 (i have a radeon 8500 and needed it....)

Keep 9.1

Sonnett is claiming that the upgrades only work eith 9.2, but others have yused them with 9.1 so stay there if possible....

Thanks guys. I'm looking into all your advice. An upgraded processor board sounds like the way to go for my situation. Much less expensive than a new computer!

I'm running what I believe is the optimized set-up for LE5.1. I've got O/S 9.1 running with a Sonnet 1GHZ upgrade chip. I'm using PTLE 5.1, as 5.1.1 caused me to lose some plug-in power, and I'm not in need of 32 tracks at the moment. The trim plug would be nice to have tho, but not worth the loss in processing power.
