Hi to all!
I have made some great Quad ambience recordings and want to use them in my mixes, but I struggle with centre channel. It leaves a hole in the middle. Sadly, there is no divergence control on quad tracks. Upmixing plugins adds centre but really smears the picture in all other channels. I tried to have send to centre channel, but that results in phasing down mix. How do you deal with centre channel with quad recordings? Is there a way how to get centre without messing up Quad tracks? Best regards! |

Either toe in (bring towards the center) slightly the L+R, or try this:

I previously tried demo of Centerone and found that I didn’t like the image that it created when used with ambiences, which often contain quite a strong noise element. I think it’s more focussed towards music with vocals. Toe-in-ing the signal sounds better to me.

Can you copy one of the channels downstream and bring back up as center?
Sort of fake it. |

What I often do is spotting twice from Soundminer. First Quad and then summed to mono for the center channel. It works well if you only use sounds as a background ambience bed. Wind, distant traffic and alike.
