Default Turning on 003 before or after PC boot?

When I first got my Digi 003 (rack factory) I recall watching a video that said you have to turn on the 003 before turning on the PC and also turn off the 003 only after shutting the PC down.

I've always done this since...

Do I remember correctly...? If so, why is this the case?

I know this is what DIGI recommends, but it never worked right for me. I was getting some -1115 errors.
I always hit the PC power and after about 1 second the 003. Have been doing that for more than a year now, every day, and it works fine.

If I forget the 003 on overnight (happens) and then just turn on the PC, PT will not recognize the 003. I will need to power the 003 off then on before running PT or shut them both down, then back up like I always do.

Pretty much the same here for years. Hit the computer power the in a second power up the strip that powers the Digi interface. At the end of the workday turn off computer and turn of the power strip.

I turn on my 002 rack first, then boot the computer. Not that it's right or wrong, just what I've always done. My reasoning is that the PC wants to see all the hardware AS it's booting. But that's just a guess.
BTW, if I leave stuff on all day and get good & busy, Pro Tools gets good & CRANKY.
A heat issue perhaps?

I have my whole system on a single switch(not the speakers). Never an issue.

Ah ok, so it's more about the PC recognising the Digi. I've been operating under the impression that I might kill it if I did it in the wrong order or something.

That's right (but its still not a great idea to hot-swap the firewire a lot). On that same thought, if you have several external drives, and you try to swap a drive with PT open, that can give problems too(a drive you just connected will not be seen by PT until you restart PT). BTW, I have my PC set to reboot on AC restore so when I hit 1 power switch, it boots the PC at the same time as powering the rest of the rig up.
