Reason goes subscription now too with Reason +
I'm surprised no one has mentioned this yet, so I'll do so. Reason Studios has announced and released Reason +. Reason + is their new subscription based service. There's some other bells and whistles that come with it, too. For those who already own Reason, you're still good and you can use the subscription similar to what happened here with Pro Tools, just switch to the annual subscription plan to get all the new upgrades/updates as they go along. If you don't have it, it can make the cost of entry much less. I won't debate whether subscription models are good or bad. They just are and they're here, so that's that.

At least you can still buy a permanent license for Reason or upgrade from older versions of Reason. Still on Reason 8 here and won't 'upgrade' until they allow hosting of vst's when Reason Rack is inside PT.

Re: Reason goes subscription now too with Reason +
I won't be signing up to any subscription. There's no reason at all I should do that
Seriously, I upgraded to Reason Studios Reason 11 Suite last year from 2.5 (!) for $180 (£130) last year. That's proper value for money. By comparison, why would I want to take up a subscription at £20 a month which is £240 a year or even the discounted £10 a month (£120 annual)?! Subscription sucks and this is another proof. Just keep paying over and over for the same software rather than owning it and hopefully a few extras thrown in along the way. It is a vendor's dream and a buyer's nightmare. Stephen

It hurt when Adobe went sub-only for Photoshop. As time went on I found I could get along quite well with what I had rather than having all the bells & whistles of current versions. Sure some of the functions available in the newer versions might make life easier but you miss one payment and you're hosed. Luckily Reason still sells permanent licenses. The bits spilled here are not to slag on Donald - no sir/no way. It's only to point out subs aren't the be-all/end-all. What I can't find on the Reason site is will permanent license holders still get permanent support and updates? Subs never save the end user money if they're into it for any significant length of time. |

Re: Reason goes subscription now too with Reason +
Reason rack is quite worth it for me. Not dealing with rewire and using Reasons autotuner, delays, vocoder, fx send returns is great. Rack if treated singular is fine and Blue Cat can host VST.
Subscriptions are not for me though. Yes my perpetual Reason is still being updated.

I said the exact same thing, Jack. I'm sticking with R-11 unless and until the Rack can host VSTs in Pro Tools. I still don't get what's so hard about them doing that. If you can host in standalone, there's technically no reason you can't in another DAW. There are several posts I've seen by users who say the same thing. But whether I go subscription route, is another matter.

For starters, the VST version of the Reason Rack is VST3. Reason itself only hosts VST plugins. I would say that’s probably a factor in it. But yes, hosting VST effects and instruments is highly sought after. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Can still buy if you want. They just don't hype that part of it.

Right. But as I said earlier, I'm not upgrading anything with Reason until VST hosting in Rack mode is available. The only other RE I want is the new Pattern Mutator, which looks very interesting to me. That can be bought outright in the Reason store. All the other bells and whistles that come with Reason + don't mean much to me.
