Default External Monitor Controllers

Hi all,

I have been doing some research on external monitor controllers for Dolby EX.
I have come across two: MultiMAX EXR and StudioComm.

Is there anybody who used these? Which one would you recommend?
Are there any other brand/models I should check out.

IMHO, MultiMAX can do a lot and the manuals I downloaded looks a bit confusing. On the other hand prices are reasonable.
On the other hand StudioComm has the "less is more" kind of attitude. And looks like will do the job for me but looks like it can not handle multiple inputs, such as stems. I dont know the prices yet.

Thanks for time and comments.
Regards,
Onan

dickcat,
I use the Martinsound MultiMax for both Features and TV. It works great, sounds great and is easy to use. If you want an easily read display and very flexible monitoing then this is it.
Good Luck,

dickcat,

being a StudioComm user, i'd say...check out the Multi-MAX. if you can afford it, it is ultimately a better option. i find the StudioComm to be a bit hissy (noisy -- to be fair, i am being a bit of a stickler, but it is a monitor controller after all. i think some of it has to do with the 'digitally controlled' analog cicuitry. makes teensy rice crispie pops when you move the dial and the controller 'clicks' when you go to zero). and it is not really setup optimally for film work. it is fine for TV and basic studio work.

thanks doc and minister for the inputs.
It looked to me as if the multimax was offering too much. And when something offers too much things get screwed in the end. But if you think it is really good I am asking for more info on the configs and setup and see if MAX has what it says it has.
What really makes me confuse with MAX is their terminology for describing their connections in the manuals.
Anyway, I'll keep you updated on what turns out what.

FYI:
I have been in contact with Martinsound and they have been extremely helpful. Both practically and theoretically.
