002 startup problems

I am starting to feel like a Guinea Pig. I bought one of the first 002s from Sweetwater, and I will be returning it tomorrow morning.

I have installed the firmware update.

I am running on a TiBook 500 laptop with 768 MB of RAM, running a 'bare' 9.2.2 OS.

I have had occasional startup glitches - before and after the firmware update - but now my system just hangs upon startup, not even bringing up the startup message.

The scribble strips are backlit and the monitor mute light is on, but nothing else happens.

My firewire port is working just fine with other devices, and I have tried various cables. The system just will not start up.

Does Digi have any information on this problem?

This was my first investment in an Avid/Digidesign product, and I am sad to say that I am not impressed. My first sessions worked great, but this problem has completely stalled my recording project and now I will be 'on hold' until further notice from Sweetwater.

Could Digi please comment on this problem, based on the returns they have received?

Tomi at Sweetwater (800-222-4700 x1232) was extremely helpful and Sweetwater will be sending me a new unit at no cost out of my pocket.

I am very impressed with Sweetwater, and hope Digi can let us know what the problem is and when they will fix it for good.
