preview not working in 'Import Audio'
for some reason the sound comes and goes. It's a 50/50 chance that I get to hear the audio in this preview feature - any ideas?

Not without at least SOME information about your system. What interface? What version of ProToools? What exactly are you trying to audition, from what source?????
Give us a clue so we can give you one! That being said, I noticed as of the 7.4 update I couldn't throw in a CD, and audition tracks via import audio. But it does work again in 8.
