Portable FireWire drives...part II.
Elsewhere on this forum I posted a question about how critical spindle speed truly is. One of the users recommended AVAmmo drives. I contacted them about the speed issue and received the following reply. Any thoughts?
"(Digidesign insists) on 7200 rpm. What they fail to mention is that on a 2.5" platter, 7200 rpm would fly off of the desktop-- and that 4200 rpm (as the HUSH drive) on a 2.5" platter equals up to 7200 rpm on a standard 3.5" drive. That is what we are trying to make clear to audio users and thus the test results posted on our site. We will have Cubase test results soon as well...Until then, I always remind users that the most important stat is ALWAYS the data transfer rate...' |

Re: Portable FireWire drives...part II.
Data access times are also important for audio or video editing. 7K rpm drive will access the same data just that little bit sooner.
Wouldn't a drive with a large on board buffer be better?
