Default Help! Workspace files have been acidized by PT7!

I use the workspace browser extensively in PT to access my sound library. But after updating to PT7 a lot of my files appear as bars/beats, and when loading into PT they come in as region groups even if they're beatless. This doesn't happen when I use the import command, but is there any way to turn it off in the workspace? And what determins if the files are cut up?

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Pro Tools 7 now imports REX and ACID files natively, so that's why you're seeing them as a region group when importing from the Workspace. As you see, the only way to get them to import as standard audio files is to use the 'Import' command.

There's a section in the What's New in PT7 manual that explains how this works.

Is there a fix for this yet? How about in 7.4 LE? I am sick of numerous wav files (format shows up as "WAV (Wave ACID)") being played back as chopped-up sounds in the form of region groups. Is there some way to turn off the REX/ACID compatibility so that wav files are just wav files and play/import from digibase properly?

THanks!

It's actually a "feature," so I don't think a "fix" is in the cards.

Hi

First I was also chocked when all my post files played and imported at the wrong speed.
Solution is easy!

1.
In the workspace there is a button which could be switched to green.
(at the left of the polyphonic)

Uncheck it! Then playback and import is in the original speed of the soundfile

or

2. Remove the elastic plug from the plug folder (If you do not need elastic)

I think your version of PT is different than mine. I have PT 7.3.1cs5 LE. It sounds like this may be something they implemented in 7.4. Maybe it's time for an upgrade.

Are you sure that you are able to play and import "WAV (Wave ACID)" format files as normal waves instead of region groups though? I don't want to deal with the cost and hassle of an upgrade if it isn't going to solve the problem.

Thanks,
Mike

Hi there,

It sounds like you're importing with "Preview & Import at Session Tempo" turned on in your browser. That's the metronome button at the top of the browser. When this is on, PT figures out the tempo of your files and imports them as elastic audio and stretches them to fit the session tempo (it also previews them at the session tempo). Turn off that metronome icon to import them at their original speed.

Also, they haven't been Acid-ized, just analyzed by PT.

I have no metronome in my workspace browser. Elastic audio - only available starting with v. 7.4. I'm on v. 7.3. Sounds like I need to upgrade to fix the problem then, eh?

Gotta hand it to those savvy businessmen at Digidesign. They sure know how to keep us paying for more.

In Preferences, go to the processing tab. Uncheck "Import REX files as Region Groups" and "Automatically Create Fades". Underneath that, "Drag and DRop from Desktop Conforms to Session Tempo" should be set to "No Files".

If you don't see that in 7.3, look for it under the Operations tab or the Editing tab.
