Default Hard Drive partitions

I have a 32 gig drive. Do I need to partition it down and if so to what sizes?

I use to do that, but if you work in 24 bits on projects with many continuous tracks, for example live bands (drums bass gtr, keyb etc etc), a song with three takes of a 6 minutes track "weigh" several gigs before cleaning up. 8 gig partitions can feel in such a case a bit "cramped".
Actually I was told (and it does work) that the most important parameter is the open ended recording limit parameter. defining a smaller value can really make protools more efficient (notably the quickpunch mode)

I've been told by Digi Reps that partitioning has become unnecessary. The speed of the drives has made it so. If you do, remember that you shouldn't let a project spill over onto multiple partitions. Spilling over onto multiple drives is what is recommended. And remember to always keep your drive defragmented.
