Default auto mute during record

I have a question which may become a suggestion, depending on the answer.

Is it possible to auto mute a track during record? I like to monitor directly from a mixer so i mute the track i'm recording to. But when i want to listen to what i've just done, i of course have to unmute, and then re-mute to record some more. (especially annoying when going through a vocal one phrase at a time). Is there a way to automate this procedure?

Thanks, Steve
