badperson,
You can hire me as a studio consultant for only $400 and i'll tell you how you should spend the other $100. Sound fair? You only mentioned mic's so it sounds like you can probably use alot of things. What kind of music do you record and what gear do you use to record it? Marc |

Re: How should I spend my next $440-$500?
Sorry,
more clarification: I'm a jazz guitarist, although I'm getting into songwriting more. I also have: -- a 1952 tele reissue -- Gibson L4 -- Martin D-35 -- cheap Fender Squire bass I have a Fender Super Amp -- Polytone Mini Brute -- Korg X3 (ancient, I know) Right now I'm leaning in the direction of either a mic pre or some plugins. |

i'd say : plugins. Something like Native Powerpack or renaisance or gold.....well worth the money...

I agree about needing a drum machine to complete songs and recordings of them. Unless you work with a drummer you like, in which case you'll need mics more than anything else.
Best bang for the buck: drum machine and some plugins. |

badperson,
I am also a Jazz Guitarist in NYC. You want to get together and play sometime? You could benefit form a POD 2.0 They are going for 220-230 at ebay. You could also get a Rode NT1 for a nice Acoustic Guitar Sound.

Re: How should I spend my next $440-$500?
Hi,
A woman and some alcohol? (For inspiration when writing those new songs?) Seriously, I think that maybe a sound module like the JV-1010 sounds about right. Good pads and washes, some drums that are at least reasonable. Price is in the right range, actually a bit lower in Ebay leaving you a bit of money for the alcohol, anyway... Re: How should I spend my next $440-$500?
My vote is for a pair of Rode NT1000 mics or Studio Projects C1s. Of course you could just get one Rode NTK for 400.00 at www.bpmmusic.com and a shockmount for 39.00
Stedman 101 pop filter for 34.00 www.8thstreet.com Ok, how about that World Class Grace 101 preamp for around 550.00. WWW.soundpure.com has all the goodies and they will beat anyones price. Just ask for Todd. Allen |
