Default Correct way to ID hardware insert delay?

Hi All,

Newbie here - been reading for the last few weeks as I transition to PT as my primary daw

I have been researching loads and just need some clarity on sorting out my hardware insert delay MS figure. Im running two Antelope Orion's linked via MADI using an RME Madiface.

Im a logic user and it seemed so easy with ping etc, but need to configure PT 12 correctly. Im using PT 12.9

Thanks

hi, first thing, welcome to the DUC .. next you are not using PT12.9 - because the latest version is 12.8.2

so what version of PT are you using please ??

are you on a PC or Mac .. ??

what operating system .. see where i am going .. ?? more info please ..

yes, logic ping is great, Avid will not put a Ping feature into PT non-HD right now, maybe one day if we keep pestering them

try this ..

Tristan
your welcome, and remember that with each sample rate and each update of pro tools you will need to re-calculate your delay

cheers john

I have to re-enter and recalculate mine every time I launch pro tools. It never keeps my setting. And some times the delay is different even under the same sample rate. Mine is always either 507 samples/11.5ms or 1024 samples/23.22ms both at 44k. I don't know what causes it to be different some times but it is always one of these two figures. And I am still on 12.7. Have not updated to anything new yet.

Hi Guys

Thanks for the help so far, I think I'm nearly there but I'm trying to follow the routing for the testing on that youtube video and I think I'm getting it wrong, routing send wise as i only get the signal flowing in when input monitoring enabled 'I'

i have ran the tests and i have to nudge the wet (hardware inert) track forward by 208 samples, so using the formula 208 / 44100 x 1000 = 4.71ms

Could you do me a favour and just describe the exact routing i should setup in PT just so I'm sure I'm doing it right as per the video as I'm sure its not right

Thanks T

pages 1043, 1050, 1076 of the pro tools reference manual ..

note: Hardware Insert - out and back in the same # .. ie: out #3 and back in #3 .. you cannot have different out's and in's !! Logic Can but not Pro Tools ..

other than this what exactly do you think is not right ??
